Our office paid for the tickets of CHak De for all of us  and Friday; Saturday & Sunday saw peeps going to the movie in different batches.

A good entertainer after a long time.  Invariable comparisons to Escape to Victory; The Longest Yard; and the innumerable basketball and football movies will be abound; nevertheless; Chak De has its differentiators thus making it unique.

First and foremost are the endearing performances by the Cast. The Cast here being the team of 16 Girls; who in all their freshness has infused an inexplicable endearing quality to each of their characters. From the tomboy Komal to the Amazonian Balbir; to the Sauve Preeti and the haughty Bindya; the Cast has excelled.

SRK; according to the people  has done a great job. But IMHO, isn’t he the same as in all other movies? The same measured reactions; the same stereo type acting? Absolutely no change.  SRK in fact has ridden to success in this movie on the basis of the superb treatment meted out to the plot and a brilliant supporting cast.

The most remarkable thing about the movie is the subtlety. The manner in which Shimit highlighted Patriotism & Loyalty without becoming jingoistic is really commendable. The backbone or the foundation on which the film has risen to heights is the Script. Jaideep Sahni has done a brilliant job in maintaining the flow and giving it the right dose of action and emotions without going overboard which is the bane of the Indian film industry. For a change; we see a script done for the sake of the Story and not for the sake of the lead cast.

The ensemble has been put together in the right proportions – be it music; acting by the cast; the lighting; camera work et. al.

I don’t think  I will be able to do justice to the film in this rambling . But it will suffice to say that a great film  which is enjoyable and (a trainer will always be a trainer) a film that I would show to all my children in all classes at least once!
